- Description
- The Gardeners' Chronicle, ser. 3, v. 67, 1920 B. ‘Polyantha’ (Name is unresolved and this photo does not match either SYN listed at http://www.theplantlist.org/ ): The subject of the illustration (Fig. 60) has been in cultivation at Kew for at least twenty years, and is supposed to be a native of Mexico. It is a very pretty and useful winter flowering Begonia for the greenhouse. Propagated by cuttings inserted in March, and given good cultivation during its growing season in a house with an intermediate temperature, the plant makes a specimen about two and a half feet high with shoots that arch over along their upper halves in a very graceful manner and bear, during January, a profusion of pale pink flowers. If propagated later in the season and grown in six-inch pols, B. polyantha is a very useful plant for furnishing the side of a conservatory stage. Old plants may be grown a second year if large specimens are desired. - J. C.
