Description
Plant small acaule with tubers 4 mm wide. Leaves 2 to 4 per tuber; petiole thick, 6-11 cm long, glabrous; blade very thin 5-7-palmatinerve, broadly lanceolate, acute at apex, somewhat asymmetric, cordate at base 4-5 x 2.5-4 cm, margins dente; acute teeth and finely mucronuleus; upper surface of the limb sprinkled with spicules very sparse, lower face glabrous; veins bifurcated towards the edges; network of tertiary nerves finely interconnected. Stipules in acute-lanceolate scales, tight on the tubercle. Inflorescences 1-3, cyme bipolar with 2-3 branches, with peduncle 5-10 cm long; bisexual cymes and pauciflorate, 4-8 pink white flowers; small bracts opposed, lanceolate, acute, deciduous on the older inflorescences; pedicel 3-10 mm long. MALE flower has 2 suborbicular tepals 4-5 mm in diameter. Stamens 7-8, with threads welded at the base in a column 0.5 mm long free at the top on the same length; oblong-elongated anther, 1.5-1.8 mm, obtuse at the apex. FEMALE flower has 2 oblong-suborbicular tepals, of 5-6 x 4-5 mm. Ovary oblong, elongated and wedged at the base, triaile; styles 3 thick, consistent at the base; stigma, reniform, globose. Capsule 10 X 10 mm, with large subtriangular wing, 6 mm wide and 2 mm small; wings have reticulum of nerves quite loose. - Pl. 4 p. 23.
