- Description
- Revue Horticole, Anne 1913 Begonia Remilly: Mr. Jarry-Desloges, amateur in the castle of Remilly (Ardennes), recently presented to the National Horticultural Society a new hybrid Begonia, obtained by him and that he denominates 'Remilly', hybrid of B. decora (female parent) by the pollen of a poorly determined foliage Begonia, 'Princess of Denmark'? probably. A vigorous plant with large, undivided leaves, almost entirely unicoloured, except for an irregular and inconspicuous central region of brownish tone, or some rounded point, with a distinctly pointed hair system, reminiscent of B. decora. The rest of the leaf has a lilac pearl pink tone shimmering like mother of pearl. Sometimes, some leaves may present on the same plant tonalities ranging from very pale pink, lilac, pink to pearly pink, rather dark lilac, but they always have particular shimmering reflections. In the many hybridizations of B. decora, made in Castle Remilly, it is the only plant besides 'L'Ardoisiere', which presents a tonality of this kind. But 'L'Ardoisiere' is vigorous, and the leaves are smaller, more tinted. It seems therefore that in the new hybrids obtained by employing these accessions as parents, no variety has yet presented a tonality of this kind. This Begonia has received a certificate of merit.
