Description
No. 251 - Begonia ('Norah Bedson' x 'Leslie Lynn') 'Universe' - B. 'Universe', a rhizomatous Begonia, has slightly star-shaped leaves, 4 x 7 inches, margin serrate, with short white hairs, smooth textured and of firm substance; the veins are green, raised on underside; petioles are 9 to 12 inches long, red dotted with stiff white hairs; stipules are green, but leaf color is Kelly green with a brownish-red pattern of perfect symmetry on top, and a dark pattern underneath. The flowers are white, blooming from March to May, ¾ inch in size, rising from rhizome on a 16 to 18 inch flower stem; both male and fem ale flowers are 2-petalled. Originator; Thelma F. O'Reilly, 10942 Sunray PL, La Mesa, Calif. 92041; developed in 1965, first bloomed in 1967, and first distributed in 1968 through Leatherman Gardens, 26 3 7 N. Lee Ave., So. El Monte, Calif. 91733. Registered July 1, 1968.
